Ayomi Amindoni is an independent journalist and visual storyteller based in Jakarta, Indonesia. Grounded in a background in philosophy, her creative documentary practice explores the complex intersections of the climate crisis, indigenous communities, environmental issues, and women’s lived experiences across Indonesia.

With over 15 years of professional media experience—including nearly a decade as a journalist, producer, and deputy service editor at the BBC Indonesian Service—Ayomi bridges rigorous investigative reporting with intimate, human-centered visual storytelling. Her approach combines slow journalism, analog and digital still photography, and long-term community engagement to challenge settler-centric perspectives and center marginalized voices.

Ayomi co-directed and co-produced the acclaimed documentary film Mencari Ibu (Searching for Mother), nominated at the Indonesia Film Festival (FFI) 2022, and produced the award-winning documentary podcast series Investigasi: Skandal Adopsi.

She is a 2026 Women Photograph mentee, a resident artist for the Goethe-Institut & Arka Kinari’s Between The Mountain and The Sea project and a Climate Storytellers Lab fellow run in partnership with National Geographic Storytellers Collective, Tsao Family Foundation and Love Frankie.
